Clarkia purpurea quadrivulnera
Wildflowers | Dicots | Myrtales | Onagraceae | Clarkia |
Blooms in May-June. Seen around Mono and Forebush camps, near Rancho Oso and on Matias trail. Also in a sandy embankment on the east side of Los Positas about ¼ mile before Modoc.
Pink, purple or white flowers with four petals, often with a darker purple spot in the middle of each petal (four petals each with spots => fourspot). There are other subspecies where the spots are not visible.
It starts the morning curled, then opens up as the day heats up, and curls up again before night. I suspect each bloom lasts one day.
