Senecio vulgaris

Wildflowers Dicots Eudicots Asterids Asterales Asteraceae Senecioneae Senecio

Old man of Spring/Common groundsel. This is probably not native to California (though there seems some doubt, possibly native to a few states of the union, and definitely native to eurasia).

Seen blooming in May on Jesusita.

The bract surrounding the flowers makes it appear as if they never open, but these are actually in full bloom.
