Salvia columbariae

Wildflowers Dicots Eudicots Asterids Lamiales Lamiaceae Salvia

Chia. (golden chia)

First observed blooming in a warm, sheltered spot on West Fork of Cold Spring trail in late February; other trails had blooms in mid March, summits bloomed in late March. Finished in June (in most places finished by the end of May)

Found on dry sunny slopes on the upper reaches of most trails.

This is one of two sages in Santa Barbara Co. which are annuals (the other being thistle sage, Salvia carduacea).
