Taricha torosa

Animals Chordata Amphibia Caudata Salamandridae Taricha

California Newt

These can be found crawling near streams, usually early in the morning, but sometimes later if the day is foggy. Being amphibians they can also be found swimming in pools. I’ve seen them as early as October and as late as May. I found them mating in mid-April (in the water) in 2009.
