Lupinus chamissonis

Wildflowers Wildflowers Dicots Eudicots Fabales Fabaceae Lupinus

Dune lupine.

This is a woody shrub of a lupine. I’ve seen it around the UCSB lagoon, and on the Ellwood bluffs. It is said to intergrade with Silver Lupine (L. albifrons) from which I cannot distinguish it. (I pretend to do so based on its location: Down by the coast it’s a Dune Lupine, up in the hills it’s Silver).

I’ve seen dune lupine blooming between February and October. My guess is that it could bloom year round if the weather cooperatated.
