Toxicoscordion fremontii

Wildflowers Monocots Liliales Melanthiaceae Toxicoscordion

Star-lily.

This taxon has changed its name, formerly it was Zigadenus fremontii and was then placed in the lily family.

This is a fire follower. In 2010 was a large colony of star-lilies in the burned over area on the west fork of cold spring trail, and many on Jesusita. In 2011 there are far fewer of them, and almost none on the west fork. In 2012 I only saw them blooming on a patch of waste ground off Painted Cave Rd.

It was blooming in March-April. Seeds appeared in April. (I saw one individual blooming in early June, in the back-country, long after the front country was finished).
