Claytonia perfoliata

Wildflowers Dicots Caryophyllales Portulacaceae Claytonia

Miner’s lettuce.

This small plant is common on our trails. The oddest thing about it is the way the flower spikes come up from the center of the leaves.

It is edible, flower and all.

Blooms Jan-May.
