Eucalyptus globulus

Wildflowers Dicots Myrtales Myrtaceae Eucalyptus

Blue gum.

Imported from Australia, originally planted in about 1850 in our area and is all over our mesas.

Blooms in the winter (about Dec-Apr).

The most interesting grove is the Butterfly Preserve out near Ellwood which has been home to a winter colony of Monarch butterflies from at least the 1870s (no one seems to know where they migrated to before the grove was planted).
