Seen blooming on the upper reaches of many trails. Noticed buds first in October, blooms December and January. Dried flowers (technically bracts) hang on the bush until May or June and give the appearance of a longer blooming season.

There are two common silk-tassels in our area. This one is the smaller of the two, not growing more than 6feet, with hairy leaves which often roll back at the edges.
