Lonicera subspicata

Wildflowers Dicots Eudicots Asterids Dipsacales Caprifoliaceae Lonicera

Chaparral honeysuckle or Santa Barbara honeysuckle

A viney shrub. It is smaller (in all ways, smaller plant, smaller leaves, smaller blooms) than its congener the pink honeysuckle.

It seems to like drier slopes than the pink (which seems to like to be near streams).

It blooms June through August. In November of 2010 at patch near the Jesusita trailhead bloomed for about two weeks (out of the normal cycle).
