Shooting Star and Drought

Shooting Star
There is one Shooting Star blooming at the Rattlesnake trailhead today. Normally there is a small patch there with several blooms, and blooms start in mid February, but this has been a difficult year.

I went by the trailhead back in January (on the seventh) and found several basal rosettes of shooting star leaves popping up. I went back in February and all the leaves were dead and gone. I revisited on 9 March (a week after the rains) and found a new set of basal rosettes, including one with a flower spike and a bud (but no flowers yet).

Today we have two blooms.
